The Sisters of Charity have two shelters
in Kathmandu, on for the Dying and Destitute, and the
other for young children suffering from tuberculosis.
FVS donates food, clothes and toys. The band also performs
interactive musical programs for special occasion throughout
the year.
FVS has a regular teaching program
for over 100 physically disabled children who come from
low-income families. These programs cover topics such
as basic English skill, proper health habits, personal
hygiene, and positive social interaction. In addition
to these free academies classes, we repair and maintain
classrooms, organize various sports events, musical
programs, and special outing. Through the help of sponsor
we donate educational audio/visual teaching aids, school
scholarships, books and supplies, sport equipment, school
uniforms and foodstuffs.
After discovering the plight of
a remote and very poor village district in the Mount
Everest region, volunteers from The Family worked to
provide a community clinic and a regular supply of medicines
to the over 10,000 villagers. FVS has since trained
a certified community health worker and midwife to care
for the many ill and injured. Our key objective is to
lower the death rate from infectious diseases, and the
infant mortality rate which is over double the Nepal
average and twenty times higher than the United States.
